In an Israel Today op-ed, MK DR Einat Wilf (Independence) explains why she is of the opinion that there is no need for a new IDF draft law.

“Is is good that the Plesner Committee failed to formulate a new draft law. The recommendations were too generous to the Hareidim, their implementation would not make them enlist, and the bond between draft deferral and Yeshiva registration would be perpetuated.

“In all fairness, the state should provide stipends and scholarships for IDF veterans. No new law is needed. The existing Security Service Law contains all the necessary provisions for Hareidi draft.”
