Iran's deputy foreign minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, said on Sunday that forcing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down and go into exile would be a “joke,” and warned that an attack on his country would be “stupid” and “catastrophic.”

AFP quoted Abdollahian as having told reporters in Amman that “Iran supports Assad's reform plans.”
