The TA Composite Index closed at 982.57, up . 24 percent, while the TA 100 rose .26 percent to 990.99, including a .42 advance to 1,083.42 by the Maof 25 most -widely-invested issues. Volume was low for a day involving international traders.
The bank stocks led the gainers, moving up .73 percent to 872.72 as the financial institutions finished the day at 788.81, up .05 percent, including a .87 percent decline to 847.70 by the insurance index. The biomed issues rose an average of .38 percent to 735.94, while the rest of the technology stocks closed at 362.97, up .17 percent. The communications and media index advanced .28 percent to 388.12, while the real estate index posted a closing price of 257.03, up a tenth of a percent. The oil and natural gas issues fell 2.7 percent to 1,028.96.
