Plesner Reveals Findings Despite Opposition

The Plesner Committee for Equal Burden of Service has revealed its findings despite recent controversy. Several MKs left the committee over its refusal to examine the topic of Arab-Israeli national service.

Among the committee’s suggestions are an IDF exemption for 1,500 hareidi men per year, and a heavy fine for those who do not serve. If a hareidi man refuses to serve, the yeshiva in which he learns should lose funding, he should become ineligible for many state benefits, and he should receive an immediate 7,500 shekel fine with an additional 75 shekel fine per day as long as he does not enlist, the committee proposed.
