Equal-Service Crisis Delays Mofaz Trip

Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz decided, Sunday, to delay his official visits to France and Britain, scheduled for the middle of this week, so that he could stay in Israel and personally manage the crisis surrounding the conclusions of the committee on equal service for all, headed by Member of Knesset Yochanan Plesner from Mofaz's Kadima party. The Bayit Yehudi and Yisrael Beytenu parties have quit the committee over its intention not to impose sanctions on Arabs who do not perform national civilian service.

Mofaz was scheduled to meet with government leaders, including their foreign and defense ministers. He was supposed to talk to them about the Iranian nuclear threat and advancing talks with the Palestinian Authority, among other regional issues.
