A report Sunday said that the Al Qaeda terror group was planning to hijack and blow up an American airliner during the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in London later this month. According to a report in the London Sunday Times, a group called Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has trained a Norwegian convert to Islam to carry the bomb, and has already targeted the plane to be blown up.
“The Norwegian recruit goes under the name of Muslim Abu Abdurrahman. He is understood to be in his thirties and a 'clean skin', with no previous criminal record," the report said. "He converted in 2008 and quickly became radicalized. He later travelled to Yemen, where he has spent several months, to complete his training," it added. A British security official said that there were numerous plots by terrorists against high-profile targets inside and outside of Britain at any given time, and that security officials were constantly on alert to prevent them from succeeding.
