PM Sends Letter of Congratulations to Morsi

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu sent a letter of congratulations to newly installed Egytian President Mohammed Morsi, after he took the oath of office Saturday. A report quoted a senior government official as saying that Netanyahu told Morsi that Israel was interested in cooperation with the new Egyptian government, and expressed hope that the peace treaty between the two countries would remain intact.

The official said that the U.S. was working with Israel to set up a phone conversation between Netanyahu and Morsi. Netanyahu's letter was presented to Morsi via the Israeli embassy in Cairo.
