Interior Minister Eli Yishai said, Thursday, that people caught illegally infiltrating Israel will go straight to jail under recently-passed legislation. Addressing a forum of deputy mayors, he said that the Sinai border barrier is almost done, acknowledging that some infiltrators will enter.
Yishai said the world should learn from the dignity with which Israel is repatriating those who came from South Sudan and not try to teach morals to the Jewish state. He said the biggest problem was the 35,000 illegals from Eritrea and 15,000 from "north" Sudan, adding that the Foreign and Justice Ministries are working on arrangements with those countries for their return. He concluded by saying Israel is not acting out of xenophobia, adding that when the infiltrators are gone, the government will have to rehabilitate neighborhoods that were adversely affected by their presence.
