Government May Unite to Lockout Hareidim

(IsraelNN.com) Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Defense Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer are conducting talks surrounding the possibility of creating a newly formed coalition run by the Likud and Labor parties, excluding the hareidi (ultra-Orthodox) parties.

The prime minister is seeking a Labor commitment not to pull out of the coalition in the coming year to force early elections. In return, Sharon is willing to restructure the government without the Shas Party and United Torah Judaism faction.

Sharon last week fired Shas and UTJ ministers and deputy ministers when they voted against the government\'s emergency economic plan.
