'Taliban Mother' to be Released Sunday

A Jewish woman from Beit Shemesh, west of Jerusalem, who belonged to a group called the "Taliban Women" because of their extreme modest dress, is scheduled to be released from prison, Sunday, after serving all of a four-year sentence without parole on a conviction for serious abuse of her four children. Sources close to the family said she is expected to return home and make contact with all her children except for a daughter who was removed from the home by social services following the woman's arrest.

Because of fasting and self-imposed stringencies in keeping kosher, which led to malnutrition and vitamin deficiency, the woman was reportedly hospitalized for long periods while serving her sentence. She also kept to herself and kept long vows of silence.
