The Knesset's State Control Committee on Monday discussed a proposal that Israel should develop an alternative rescue service, and not just rely on Magen David Adom. MK Uri Ariel (National Union), chairman of the Committee, said that “although we must thank Magen David Adom and its workers for their efforts, the recent reports on the MDA by the State Comptroller are very serious. This Committee will work to change the situation, despite the apparent inability of the organization to internalize the criticism in the report.”
The report, which accused MDA of inefficiency, waste, nepotism, and other problems, recommended numerous changes to the management and structure of the organization. Ariel said that the government had promised that the necessary changes would be made by July. If the reforms do not take place, he said, “I do not dismiss the possibility that additional organizations would 'compete' with MDA. Such a situation would lead to more efficiency and improved conditions for clients,” he added.
