Petition for Criminal Investigation in Harpaz Affair

The Ometz movement petitioned the Supreme Court, Monday, to summon Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein and police representatives to explain why a criminal investigation has not been opened into intrigues surrounding the selection the 20th chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces. Weinstein has been at odds with State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss over the need to open a criminal investigation.

The case has been called the Harpaz Affair for reserves officer Boaz Harpaz, who forged a document, uncovered in August 2010, instructing General Yoav Galant to use a smear campaign as part of his candidacy for the position. The case has highlighted animosity between former chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi and Defense Minister Ehud Barak.
