Israel will invest tens of millions of shekels to develop infrastructure at the Allenby Bridge Crossing over the River Jordan, according to the Website of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories. The projects include renewal of the air-conditioning systems, additional inspection facilities, strengthening buildings against earthquakes and upgrading of the waiting rooms.
The bridge, about five kilometers east of Jericho, is not used by Jewish Israelis, but by Israeli and Palestinian Authority (PA) Arabs to go to or come back from Jordan and the rest of the world. About 700,000 are expected in July and August. It also serves as a commercial crossing for goods leaving and entering the PA.
