Polls were scheduled to close at 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening, Cairo Time (9:00 p.m. Israel Time) in the first Egyptian presidential election since last year's ouster of Hosni Mubarak. Half an hour later, counting the ballots is scheduled to start.
The governor of the Ash-Sharqiya District told Al-Arabiya that more than 70 percent of the voters turned out at most polling places in the district on Wednesday. He added that some elections violations were recorded. Otherwise Thursday's voting passed without incident.
