The Carter Center, operated by former United States president Jimmy Carter, will send 22 observers to monitor next week's balloting in the Egyptian presidential elections. A total of 80 monitors from 35 countries will take part in the effort.

Concern has been expressed about election fraud. The frontrunners are former former minister and Arab League secretary-general Amr Moussa and former Muslim Brotherhood candidate Abdel-Moneim Abu El-Fotoh.
