Attorney GeneralYehuda Weinstein asked Chairman David Rotem ofthe Knesset Constitution,Law and Justice Committee, Thursday, to expeditethelegislative processfor an amendmentto the law which shouldimprove the ability ofpoliceto dealwith the phenomenon ofknife-related crimes, which has been prominent in recent weeks.
Under the amendment, police would be given the authority to check a person's belongings, even if the person was not suspected of a crime, at entertainment centers and other places where crowds gather, as defined, in advance, as places where there is increased concern of violence.
