Cameron: Euro Needs United Europe

The euro cannot succeed without a more unified European government, British Prime Minister David Cameron said in an interview with the Daily Mail published Wednesday. “There’s nowhere in the world that has a single currency without having more of a single government,” he said.

Europe may not need a single government, but must have “much more co-ordinated economic policy, much more co-ordinated debt policy” if the euro is to be saved, he said.

Britain will not give up its independence in economic matters for the sake of the euro, he added, saying, “I have always believed different countries at times will need different economic policies, interest rates tailored to their own needs.”
