New Shipping Route Bypasses Syria

A new shipping route running from Turkey to the Gulf States and Africa without sending freight by land in strife-torn Syria was inaugurated over the weekend, according to the PORT2PORT Website. The Moldovan vessel Anna-Marine was first ship to sail from the Turkish port of Mersin and dock at Port Said West in Egypt. Other nearby destinations for the twice-a-week route include Alexandria and Demiata.

The first cargo consisted of 23 refrigerated and other trucks. Most of the ships on the route will be of the roll-on, roll-off ferry variety.
