A poll in France has showed strong support for an alliance between President Nicolas Sarkozy and right-wing Marine Le Pen among both candidates’ supporters. 59% of Le Pen’s voters and 64% of Sarkozy’s say they favor an agreement.
Among the general population, 64% oppose a Sarkozy-Le Pen agreement. The "far right" Le Pen supports reserving jobs for French nationals and abandoning the euro.
Le Pen got surprisingly high support in the first round of voting, with 18.6 support to Sarkozy’s 27% and Hollande’s 28.2%. Polls show Hollande with more support than Sarkozy in the second round of voting, however, many voters remain undecided.
