Electric Company Wants to Declare Emergency

The Electric Company has asked the Ministry of Energy and Water to declare a state of emergency for electricity. The declaration would allow the company to announce occasional electricity stoppages in order to ensure supply.

Company managers have expressed concern over the anticipated high demand for electricity in the summer. With the supply of natural gas cut off, supply is expected to be just 1% higher than demand, meaning that if demand rises on particularly hot days it could cause widespread blackouts.
