Former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, now a UN emissary, called Tuesday to give a Syrian ceasefire time to take effect. Annan said Assad’s army is withdrawing from contested cities, in accordance with a deal he helped to create.
The Syrian opposition reported Tuesday that Assad’s troops have continued their shelling, and the death toll is still rising.
