Egypt: 'Brotherhood' Candidate Files for Presidency

Khairat Ash-Shater officially filed documents, Thursday, to run as the Muslim Brotherhood's candidate for president of Egypt. He said the movement's reversal of its previously announced position not to run a candidate was caused by criticism of the earlier position within the movement and outside.

Kol Yisrael government radio reports that the Salafist movement tried to minimize the damage to its image after it became apparent that the mother of its presidential candidate holds an American passport and his sister lives in the United States.
