Kachlon Pushes Switch to Food Stamp Cards

Welfare Minister Moshe Kachlon announced Tuesday that in the future, his ministry will give money to non-governmental food assistance groups only if they agree to give their donations in the form of cards that can be used at grocery stores. The method is similar to the United States “food stamps” program.

“The method of distributing food in cardboard boxes has to go,” said Kachlon. On Monday the minister slammed food assistance groups, accusing many of them of using needy families for PR purposes and pocketing money in the form of large salaries.
