Brimmed Hat Saves Jew in Axe Attack

A Jewish man attacked Monday by an axe-wielding terrorist was saved thanks to his brimmed hat, his brother told Channel 2 news. The hat “created an air pocket between his head and the point where the axe struck,” Yosef Weisfisch explained.

A doctor said the man’s injuries were surprisingly light considering the force of the attack. He suffered a broken skull, but no internal bleeding, the doctor explained.

The attack took place at Shechem gate in the Old City of Jerusalem. The victim was on his way home after praying at the Kotel (Western Wall). “He plans to keep walking in the same place as soon as he recovers,” his brother said, adding that the victim hopes to be released Tuesday.
