Chairman Ze'ev Elkin and Aryeh Eldad of the Knesset's Land of Israel lobby called on Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Monday, to immediately cancel what they called the scandalous eviction order issued to the Jewish residents of Beit Hamachpelah (Machpelah House) in Hevron.
A statement issued by the lobby said, "The text of the order, demanding evacuation of the house solely on the grounds of 'public order', bears witness [like a thousand witnesses] to the acquisition of the property being proper. It is unthinkable that 'public order' in the city of the Patriarchs means prevention of a Jewish residence opposite the Me'arat Hamachpelah Cave of the Patriarchs. And it is unthinkable that the defense minister makes his own judgement and seizes the opportunity before the government before a cabinet discussion. We call on the prime minister to be loyal to the government he heads to act to establish the Jewish community of Hevron and to give a "transaction permit" and approve the residence of the families in the house."
