Eliezer Hisdai, the mayor of the town of Alfei Menashe in western Samaria, has passed away. Hisdai passed away after a long illness.
Hisdai was “a charismatic figure who led the development and advancement of Alfei Menashe,” a recent profile of Hisdai in the media said. Hisdai had been a member of Kadima, but left the party in 2009. He is noted for lobbying the government of former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to ensure that the town would remain within the security fence that was being built around the 1948 armistice lines, even though it is areas liberated by Israel in the 1967 Six Day War.
