Bill: Driver’s License for 16-Year-Olds

The Finance Committee has approved for a second and third reading a bill that would allow young Israelis to first take their driver’s test at age 16 and nine months, instead of the current minimum age of 17. However, after passing the test, teenagers would only be allowed to drive while accompanied by a more experienced adult driver for six months.

The proposal aims to reduce teen involvement in traffic accidents. It was put forth by Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz.
