Former chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi of the Israel Defense Forces was not involved in the "Harpaz Affair", in which a forged document attributed to a public relations firm had plans to smear competitors of General Yoav Galant in his bid to succeed Ashkenazi, according to a draft of the State Comptroller's report. The comptroller submitted copies of the draft to parties named in the report, Sunday, for their review and comment for inclusion in the final report.
The draft had harsh criticism for Ashkenazi's office, as well as that of Defense Minister Ehud Barak. It said tensions and a lack of communication between the two offices caused serious irregularities, such as delays in promotions. At the same time the draft said criminal charges were not warranted.
