Member of Knesset Tzipi Hotovely (Likud Party) stated that rock attacks and other forms of instigation do not just occur on the Mount of Olives but in many eastern neighborhoods of Jerusalem. MK Hotovely's assistant Ariel Pulver and two congressmen from the United States narrowly avoided being hit by rocks from two assailants during a visit to the cemetery last week.
On Wednesday MK Hotovely stated in a press release, "steadily and quietly, there has been a political and religious radicalization of the Eastern neighborhoods of Jerusalem, which the National Government must contend with. In the last few years we have been briefed, on the Foreign Affairs and Defense committee, of individuals promoting Hamas and other terror organizations that have channeled millions of dollars through 'charitable' organizations for Muslims to build homes in the Eastern neighborhoods of Jerusalem and for purposes unknown."
She made the statements in reponse to a panel discussion held on the matter in Jerusalem sponsored by the Committee for the Preservation of the Mount of Olives.
