Chairman of Joint Chiefs Against Cuts to Egypt

Chairman Martin Dempsey of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a Congressional committee, Thursday that a cut-off in aid to Egypt over its treatment of American human-rights activists could backfire. General Dempsey told the House Appropriations Committee, "When we use funding to separate ourselves from prior partners, nothing good comes of it."

He conceded, "There have to be some consequences for the choices they've made, I fully agree with that."
