Students to Comptroller: Probe Housing Subsidy Program

The national student association asked State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss, Sunday evening, to open an investigation into the process that led to the Housing Ministry's determination of the eligibility criteria for the Mechir Lemishtaken (mortgager's price) subsidized mortgage program. The ministry is headed by Member of Knesset Ariel Atias from the Sephardic hareidi Shas party and the recently-announced criteria favored the hareidi-religious community.

The association cited a criterion of numbers of years married and number of children, as opposed to the criterion of military or national volunteer service. They also said the criteria do not encourage working and note that only a fifth of the apartments in the program are for people over the age of 35 with no children.
