Former journalist and future political candidate Yair Lapid said, Thursday, that "As a citizen, I can tell you that Jerusalem is not only a place in my eyes, but also my history and my national ethos, and I think it belongs to the people of Israel and noone else." Lapid was responding to a question posted on his Facebook page if he would agree to dividing the city into Israeli and Palestinian capitals.
Not all users who responded thought that the posting expressed a clear position on the issue. One surfer said that "...that does not mean that we will not return part of it in exchange for peace." The writer continued that one who would turn it over to the Palestinian Authority would do it because he sees the future of the country before his eyes and not with joy and fun."
