Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal is scheduled to make an official visit to Jordan. In confirming the visit, a Jordanian government spokesman said the Hashemite kingdom views the terror leader's meetings with local officials as a starting point for relations between Jordan and Hamas.

Mashaal was based in Jordan before an Israeli assassination attempt, after which Hamas moved its headquarters to Damascus.
