Knesset Rejects Making Law of Return More Permanent
The Knesset plenum rejected Wednesday afternoon the preliminary reading of a bill that would place the Law of Return within the Basic Law. The Law of Return, passed in 1950, gives any Jewish person anywhere in the world the right to move to Israel and receive Israeli citizenship. 10 Members of Knesset supported the proposal and 36 opposed it. The bill was sponsored by MK Dr. Aryeh Eldad of the National Union Party.
