Steinitz's Ultimatum to Israel Chemicals Ends

An ultimatum presented by Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz to Israel Chemicals regarding a government proposal on salt harvesting ended at midnight (Israel time) on Tuesday.

Steinitz has threatened to establish a committee, headed by Professor Eitan Sheshinski, that will to examine the State’s shares from Dead Sea quarrying. However, Army Radio reported that a compromise on the issue has been reached, and that Israel Chemicals has agreed to fund 90% of the salt harvesting.
