Science and Technology Minister Daniel Hershkowitz (Bayit Yehudi) on Sunday called for authorities to act strongly against individuals who attempt to discriminate against women. “Spitting should be considered like a physical attack, and those in Beit Shemesh who undertake this kind of attack should be put in jail,” he said. “A country where little girls must fear to walk in the street because they may be spit at and cursed is not a country that is being run properly,” Hershkowitz, chairman of a Knesset subcommittee on discrimination against women, said.
The Hareidi man who was seen in a Channel 2 news story as spitting when a woman passed by was arrested Saturday night, and will be arraigned Sunday afternoon. Police are seeking an extension of his remand.
