A Karnei Shomron resident was arrested Sunday for his alleged role in a protest at the Efrayim military base several weeks ago. The 22 year old is the second to be arrested in the case. He is to be brought for arraignment Sunday afternoon, when police will seek an extension of his remand.
In the two weeks since the incident – in which protesters allegedly broke into the base and threw rocks at an IDF official – only two people have been arrested. At the time of the incident, media reports indicated that dozens, perhaps hundreds of youths had been involved in the incident. Participants in the protest agains the evacuation and demoliton of Ramat Gilad, adjacent to the base, said that the number was far smaller, and that the vast majority of protesters went nowhere near the base, and certainly did not throw rocks at anyone.
