The Shabak Israel Security Agency abducted a Gaza resident suspected of planning to kidnap an Israeli and fire rockets at Israel, three weeks ago while he was in the Sinai Peninsula, according to a Friday-morning report by Ash-Sharq Il-Awsat. A Palestinian Authority human rights group told the London-based Arabic daily that local Bedouin carried out the abduction and turned Tahar Atawa over to the agency in the Eilat area.
An attorney who visited Atawa in jail said Atawa was in the company of Gaza youths when he was kidnapped. Atawa said he does not know what happened to them. They may have also been turned over to Israeli security authorities or have succeeded in escaping to Gaza via tunnels used to smuggle weapons, other contraband and people into the Hamas-controlled area.
