Syria: 2,000 Troops Killed in Unrest

The Syrian government announced, Thursday evening, that more than 2,000 members of its security forces have been killed since the start of anti-government unrest in March, according to the official SANA news agency.

The announcement came in a letter to the United Nations, whose Human Rights Council puts the death toll from the government's violent crackdown on dissent at more than 5,000.
