Spokesman Yoav Mordechai of the Israel Defense Forces denied, Friday morning, that the appointment of Brigadier General Nitzan Alon to head the IDF's Central Command was political. as charged by Chairman Benny Katzover of the Shomron (Samaria) Resident's Committee during an interview on IDF Radio.
Brigadier General Mordechai told the station that the appointment of Alon and that of Shai Avital, also criticized by Katzover, "were the choices of Chief-of-Staff Benny Gantz alone which were approved by Defense Minister Ehud Barak." Mordechai said attempts to claim otherwise were "invalid, incorrect and inaccurate." A senior official in the Central Command told Arutz Sheva on Thursday that Lieutenant-General Gantz had no say in the matter.
