Proposal for Salt Harvesting in Dead Sea Passes Vote

The Knesset has voted in favor of harvesting salt from the  Dead Sea in a preliminary vote. Further stages of voting must take place to pass the proposal. The Dead Sea Works will fund the project. The Dead Sea Fund would have their royalties increased as well.

Stas Misezhnikov, Israel's Minister of Tourism stated, "There is little time remaining to save the Dead Sea. In order to rehabilitate, protect and develop this national resource for future generations, we must act immediately to prevent the continuous rise of the sea, implement new infrastructures, and develop tourism opportunities of a national resource of which there is no other like it in the world."

The Dead Sea is considered the saltiest body of water and the deepest spot in the world.
