70th Anniversary of Simferopol Massacre Observed

Dozens of people gathered, Sunday, in the Ukrainian city of Simferopol, to mark the 70th anniversary of the massacre of about 14,000 Jews by the Nazis. Relatives of the victims observed a moment of silence, held a march and erected a monument in memory of the victims.

Deputy Parliament Chairman Grigori Iyoffe said, "Today, when Nazism is raising its head, memory is our only weapon. Only so can we remember and not forget what happened here 70 years ago." After the observance, Israeli ambassador Reuven Daniel said, "I think that all of us, no matter in which country, can do a lot so that act like this do not recur."
