Mohammed Sobeih, the Arab League Assistant Secretary-General in charge of Palestinian affairs, criticized American presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, Sunday, for his statement that the Palestinians are an "invented" people, according to the Associated Press.

Sobeih told reporters at the League's headquarters in Cairo that the statment was  "irresponsible and dangerous". He said the former speaker of the House of Representatives is sacrificing U.S. interests for votes, and that the comments run counter to democratic values and international agreements.
