Rail Strike Cancelled

A strike by railroad workers that was supposed to start on Friday was averted, Thursday evening, when the railroad decided not to bring in an outside company to do maintenance on the line's cars and engines. The decision was reached during a conversation between Israel Railways Chairman of the Board Uri Yogev and Chairman Ofir Eini of the Histadrut Labor Federation.

It was agreed that talks will continue at a higher level under close supervision. The railroad was two weeks away from signing an agreement with an outisde company to perform maintenance on the rolling stock, following a deadlock in talks at the end of a deadline set by the National Labor Court, following sanctions by railroad employees at the end of September.
