The Hamas terror organization welcomed Monday's vote by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization to accept the Palestinian Authority (PA) as a full member, according to the Bethlehem-based Ma'an news agency.

Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum called the decision "an important step for the Palestinian people," adding that it would help protect their heritage.
