Vice President Joe Biden’s harsh remarks regarding prisoner Jonathan Pollard continued to create controversy this week. Anti-Defamation League director Abe Foxman was among those who called on Biden to reconsider his views.
Biden said last week that he had told President Barack Obama that Pollard would be released “over my dead body.” Pollard has served more than 25 years of a life sentence imposed for passing classified information to Israel, and is in poor health.
“This is today an issue that has a consensus among the American Jewish community,” said Foxman, speaking to Haaretz. “It’s almost inhuman to keep him in prison. He served his time and there is no justification to keep him in prison.”
Famed author, Nobel laureate and Holocaust survivor Elie Weisel called on Biden to reconsider as well.
