Rabbi Amar: Mosque Fire May Have Been 'Blood Libel'

In an interview, Chief Sephardic Rabbi Shlomo Amar said that it was very possible that the arson at the mosque in Tuba Zangriya was a “blood libel,” with Arabs or others burning it down for their own purposes and foisting blame on the Jews. “We have been very familiar throughout the generations with the blood libel, where they kill a Christian child and blame it on the Jews,” Rabbi Amar said. “It is impossible to know if there were influences involved in this incident seeking to make trouble between Arabs and Jews,” he added.

Earlier, Rabbi Amar and Ashkenazic Chief Rabbi Yonah Metzger joined President Shimon Peres on a tour of the mosque. Rabbi Amar strongly condemned the action, calling it a “desecration of G-d's name, the state of Israel, and of all nations and religions.”
