Population Up 1.9 Percent in the Last Year

The Central Bureau of Statistics released figures, Monday, that show 7,797,400 people live in Israel. Jews comprised about 5,874,300, while Arabs made up about 1,600,100 and foreign workers accounted for about 217,000.

The statistics, released ahead of the Jewish New Year of Rosh Hashanah, which begins Wednesday evening, show an increase of 1.9 percent in the population, similar to the last eight years.
