Rivlin Tries to Bridge PM, Barak to Mofaz

Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin said, Sunday afternoon, that he would check with the Knesset's legal advisor about the growth of the subcommittee on intelligence and covert operations, after a meeting with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak regarding friction with Chairman Shaul Mofaz of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. The high-level meeting followed the refusal by representatives of the Defense Ministry to appear, as summoned, at a joint committee meeting on the defense budget on Sunday.

Noting the concerns of Netanyahu and Barak regarding the reporting of classified information to the committee, Rivlin said that if they wanted to restrict the appearances of major security figures before the committee, they would have to face the committee themselves. He said he would meet with Mofaz in the next few days.
