At the opening of Sunday's cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said that despite the events over the weekend at the Israeli embassy in Cairo, Israel still attached great importance to the peace treaty with Egypt. “Those who pulled our flag down will not stop at any means” to break the treaty, Netanyahu said. “They deny peace, and the existence of Israel. We are in constant touch with Egyptian authorities in order to ensure that our ambassador can return.”

Netanyahu added that he was pleased that Egypt's leadership had sharply condemned the attack. “I am happy to hear that there are other voices in Egypt that want to promote peace and preserve it,” he said.
